I am definitely a "grammar nazi" but I break the rules often. And I do it on purpose. As a writer, I primarily write traditional sonnets. Saying more with less is the bread and butter of a poet. As far as influence goes, I incorporate intertextual rips all the time. Those who don't notice them, just don't notice them. Those who do will understand why I use them. I don't read a lot of poetry, taken as a percentage of my total reading load, but everything I read, see or do influences me.
